| Patricia Boiko, MD, MPH received her medical degree at Cornell University Medical College and her specialty Family Practice at the Medical University of South Carolina. She completed her Master's in Public Health and Primary Care Research Fellowship from the University of Washington. She is currently board certified in Family Practice and practices half-time in clinical patient care. She has received patient care and research awards. Her research experience and interests include skin cancer early detection and prevention and migrant farmworker mental health. |
| Karl Weyrauch, MD, MPH is staff physician for the Western Institutional Review Board, the oldest and most experienced independent human subjects review board in America. He graduated with distinction from Swarthmore College, holds an MD from Cornell University Medical College and an MPH in Health Services from the University of Washington. He completed an internship and residency in family medicine at the Medical University of South Carolina at Charleston and he practices family medicine part-time at Group Health Permanente in Seattle. He has consulted for Group Health Permanente, Highline Medical Group, the University of Washington, the Youth Suicide Prevention Program of Washington State, Suicide Prevention Advocacy Network and the pharmaceutical industry. His research interests include the physician-patient relationship, the personal knowledge of physicians for their patients, poetry in medicine and informed consent for human subjects of scientific research. His publications include over 30 scientific papers and other articles and reviews. He is the founder and editor of eZAAPP, the weekly, international email poetry 'zine for doctors (www.ezaapp.org), and his poetry has appeared in JAMA, The Journal of Medical Humanities, Texas Observer, and Rosebud, among others. In 2004 he was nominated for a Pushcart Prize in poetry. |
